The first patterned set of designs, use geometric lines which follow the Otl Aicher grid, one with a zigzag, one with a diagonal and one with a central triangle which came from experimentation. By having three separate designs it means that people receiving the business cards (especially if they are placed in books) will be able to see a point of uniqueness.
The back cover of the design is quite minimal but has a lot of character, with the face of the cat peaking out to watch the viewer. This links to the quirky nature of the author and the books he produces. It also is consistent with the front-facing side but adds some variety.
Alternatively, I also laid out some designs which would have the 'fold' effect of the cat, to see how these would look in print. They would have one blue side and one white side, giving the viewer some variety. The fold design may also pop from the page more successfully than the patterned designs shown above - so both were printed in order to give the client some options and to determine the best possible outcome.
