After looking at the previous yearly branding, there are certain trends that can be noticed. Apart from the 2018 entry, they all seem to use the same typeface, which is a bold and clear sans-serif which appears to match the university's branding. These designs also seem to all be image based, with a strong focus on bold and brilliant colour, and potentially handmade techniques, which is something we could consider replicating.
However, the most recent design, made in 2018, appears to be quite different. This is entirely type based, and shows quite an interesting/unique style. It was scrutinised because it had no apparent concept, but the design work is detailed and considered - showing perhaps a more serious and contemporary take on what the branding could be. Our branding should consider that this could be a new direction that the judges are looking for within the branding. Perhaps we could also experiment with a type based approach because of this.
