Final Map Development

To make the symbol map it has been developed into a simplistic monochromatic design. Drawing from the research in ‘World Without Words’ I have chosen to use only symbols and line. Not only is this simpler to read but it also makes the design more dramatic. The book suggests that compressing meaning into purely visual forms can 'satisfy our need for speed and can transcend individual languages and culture.'

I have chosen to make the majority of the design black with white detail because this fits better with the dark, futuristic zombie apocalypse aesthetic. Having the path in white colour it feels more motivating and natural that the path should be followed because it is brightly lit. Often in apocalyptic films there is a ‘good and evil’, which can be represented in a map format by using black to signify the danger that lies on the outside.

Also by using the symbols in white over each zone they appear almost like stamps, this could link to ‘completing’ that zone; giving a sense of progression.
