Pan Macmillan Storybook - Studio Brief 2 Collaboration Brief

'The Macmillan Prize For Children's Picture Book Illustration was established by Macmillan Children’s Books to stimulate new work from young illustrators in art schools, and to help them take the first steps in their professional lives. This coveted award, which is currently in its 33rd year, has discovered such talent as Emily Gravett, Gemma Merino and Bethan Woolvin, amongst many others.' - https://www.panmacmillan.com/macmillanprize

For the second part of this unit, I will be undertaking a collaboration with Megan Keighley who is also on Graphic Design. Together we will be sharing the work for the storybook, devising the plot together and going on a research trip for inspiration. Our original plan upon reading this brief was to do a story themed on Ilkley Moor which we have visited before and been particularly visually inspired by in the past.

Brief Requirements:
  • 32 pages of rough pencil sketch pages.
  • 3-4 double page spreads of finished artwork.
  • 300mm x 300mm is the limit.
  • 5mm Bleed
  • 1st April - 19th April submission.
Judges are looking at:
  • Narrative, pacing, characterisation.
  • Quality of illustrations over text, too many words can clutter the illustration!
  • Avoid monotonous layouts - with little contrast in composition or colour.
  • Any lettering should be placed onto a transparent overlay - not directly onto the art.
