We initially began looking at examples of collage storybooks, these seemed soft and particularly successful for natural settings and scenes. The tend to use lots of negative space, with focus on elongated, layered shapes. The relationship with colour was also interesting as none of the examples used bright or overwhelming colours, we realised it was important that the colours was soft and natural - like the scenes that would be seen on moors. We also thought it would be interesting if we kept the 'realistic' story pages as black and white, with subtle spikes of colour, and the 'fantasy' pages as full colour.
