Reasons for Choosing Caslon

  • Bracketed serifs will allow for manipulation into organic shapes, such as limbs.
  • High contrast in width and tension of line means there is a classic and elegant feel. Linking to vintage horror novels which I can research.
  • The soft line will also work well when composed with natural shapes.
I also did a quick experiment with a type that was consistently thicker, Claradon. I thought being thicker in width it would work better in shaping limbs. Yet I found the type to have none of Caslon's elegance and the slab serifs to be too inconvenient for the curved shapes I want to incorporate.
